The holidays can really be a magical time, and often, when we look back on our own memories of the holidays it’s the traditions and time with family that stick out, rather than material gifts. In this article, we’ll go over some of our favorite, simple holiday traditions if you’re looking for something to make this season just a little more special for your family.

Drive Around to See the Lights With Hot Chocolate

Sometimes simple is best, and driving around to look at Christmas lights with a warm hot chocolate is simple and a classic. You can add to this classic by setting a specific night each week to do this during the Christmas season.

Have Christmas Movie Nights

Watching a classic Christmas movie together as a family is another great tradition to try out this year. It’s simple and doesn’t require a lot of extra time or effort on your part, and it can be the perfect thing to unwind after a long day or a long week. Add some special snacks and/or pick a specific night each week to make it even more special and meaningful.

Have a Gingerbread House Contest

Another fun way to spend time with family and make magical Christmas memories is through the fun of a gingerbread house contest! Whether you invite the extended family over for a big event or you just host it with your immediate family, it can be really fun. If you’re really into baking, you can try to make the pieces yourself, but you can also get the premade kits or even use graham crackers or pop tarts for a super easy twist.

Dress Up

Dressing up for the season can be a fun way to add some Christmas magic into your family’s holiday season this year. You can opt for the matching Christmas pajamas, ugly Christmas sweaters (either as a family party or to tack on to movie nights or looking at Christmas lights), and/or you can dress up your pets in fun outfits for the season.

Have a Gift Wrapping Party

We all have gifts to wrap this time of year, and it can often be one of those things we put off until the last minute. This year, why not host extended family members and/or friends for a gift wrapping party. Everyone brings their gifts, some of their favorite wrapping party, and a snack or two. You can play Christmas music or just enjoy each other’s conversation. It’s a great way to check something off that long to-do list while also having fun during the holiday season.

Put Up Some Mistletoe

Mistletoe can be a silly and fun way to add some magic into the holiday season. Whether it’s just you and your significant other or you have kids at home, it can be fun for the whole family and give you a good excuse to give those distant teens some extra love this time of year.
