We all know our moms deserve the best, and we want to give it to them! And what mom wouldn’t love an upgraded kitchen this May? (Moms if you’re reading this yourself, it still counts as a Mother’s Day present if it’s your idea and/or you pick it out yourself!) In this article, we’ll go over some tips on what to consider when considering a kitchen upgrade.

Define your style and style goals. One of the great things about the variety of appliances on the market today, especially with higher end appliances, is that you can often find ones that are not just functional but aesthetically pleasing as well. When thinking about what appliances you might want, it’s important to consider the style of your kitchen and your overarching style goals for that space. Some appliances may be sleek and have more of a modern feel, while others don’t look out of place in a cottage style or rustic country kitchen. Think about what you want for your kitchen as a whole and look for options that fit within that. However, if your focus is more on function than the way an appliance looks, you may be able to customize certain features of appliances (for example fitting them cabinet fronts) to fit your style. Or, if function is the most important to you, you may be able to transform your existing kitchen style to the style of the appliance with careful, curated touches.

Discuss budget. Quality appliances, especially those that are beautiful and well-designed, come at a price. While design can be a great starting point, your budget should be in step or not far behind your style goals. Kitchens especially can be expensive even without luxury appliances, so do some research or talk to a salesperson about what to expect when it comes to pricing.

Figure out the features that matter. Every great cook has things that are important to them. While a stove may be genuinely beautiful, if it’s too big for your kitchen space, or it won’t fit your family’s Thanksgiving turkey each year, it simply isn’t the right choice for you. If you have small children, there are even more features to consider. Additionally, there are so many “smart” appliances on the market today, and don’t get us wrong, these can be great. However, if you’re someone who struggles with technology, you don’t want to purchase a refrigerator that you struggle to operate every day, multiple times a day.

Find the high-end appliances for you. Once you have your design, budget, and important features determined, it’s time to find the right appliance for you.
