While we may not have snow often in South Georgia, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the magic of winter. Turning your home into a magical winter wonderland doesn’t have to be complicated or flashy, stick with simple, neutral tones like white, cream, tan, and gold. Read below for more tips on how to bring your home into the winter season.
● Lighting is key in winter when the days are so much shorter, and lights are such a classic holiday decoration. You can add lighting with the classic string lights outside (whether it’s for visitors to see or out on the patio or porch just for you), lights of a Christmas tree, string lights around your mantle, and candles (either traditional flame candles or battery operated ones). Opt for white lights for a classic look. You’ll be surprised how much a few small lights can brighten your winter days and make you feel cozy and warm.
● Set the scene of your home by choosing key areas to decorate. This could be your entryways, mantle, or dining room table, but these are small, easy to decorate, high traffic areas that will go a long way in making your home feel more like a winter wonderland. Again, opt for soft neutrals like creams and tans with some natural elements like an orange garland or greenery and watch how big on an impact these areas can make in the ambiance of your home.
● Winter scents like cinnamon, cedar, spruce, fir, vanilla and others are a great way to transform your home into a winter wonderland and bring back memories of holidays past. You can incorporate these scents with candles, essential oils and a diffuser, or a simmer pot on your stove. Either way, you will love how good your home smells and how it feels.
● Winter greenery and other natural elements are a must for turning your home into a cozy winter wonderland. Think things like a natural fir garland, spruce, or holly. You could also try a natural orange garland or winterberry in a floral arrangement for a little pop of color.
● Add layers around your home with cozy blankets, rugs (if you don’t already have them), and throw pillows. There is nothing better in winter than being able to retreat into your own little cozy abode during the cold, dark nights and cuddle up on the couch or in bed with soft blankets and throw pillows.
● Light a fire to warm and brighten cold winter nights. Whether you use a traditional wood burning fireplace, a gas fireplace, or an outdoor firepit, there is just something about a nice fire on a cold night. They add nice ambient light and heat when the weather outside is frightful.
